MTG Sonic Secret Lair: All 3 Drops and Card Lists

Updated August 16, 2026. This guide now covers all three Sonic Secret Lair drops, their correct card lists, original prices and format legality.

Correction: The earlier version treated Turbo Gear as the whole crossover and listed five cards that were not in that drop. Wizards released three separate Sonic drops. The complete official contents appear below.

Sonic did not arrive in Magic as a single novelty card. The 2025 Sonic Superdrop paired one set of seven new-to-Magic character cards with two groups of existing Magic cards dressed in Sonic artwork. That distinction matters. Friends & Foes supplies the characters and new game pieces. Turbo Gear and Chasing Adventure are reskinned reprints whose tournament legality follows the underlying Magic cards.

Sonic Secret Lair at a glance

Those are original list prices, not current market values. Wizards sold the products in limited quantities and capped purchases at two of each product listing. Friends & Foes card list and legality

Friends & Foes is the central drop because all seven cards were new to Magic. Wizards said these cards are legal in Commander, Legacy and Vintage. They are not automatically legal in Standard, Pioneer or Modern simply because they have official Magic cards. Format legality follows Wizards’ rules and can change through bans, so check the current card database before entering an event.

The nonfoil version also reached WPN game stores on August 21, 2025, giving players another route beyond the direct Secret Lair sale. Regional delivery timing varied, and Wizards said Japan and EMEA retail orders would arrive later in September. When comparing a listing, confirm whether it is a direct-sale version, WPN nonfoil product, foil product, sealed drop or individual card. The broad Sonic and Magic search can mix those formats together.

Turbo Gear complete card list

Turbo Gear did not turn Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Dr. Eggman into Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, Fireshrieker and Lightning Bolt. Its official list is a group of six existing Magic cards presented as recognizable Sonic equipment, machines and vehicles:

A Turbo Gear card is mechanically the named Magic card before “as.” That means Power Sneakers plays as Lightning Greaves, while Knuckles’s Gloves plays as The Reaver Cleaver. Buyers searching Turbo Gear listings should check that all six cards and the token are present. A product photo alone is not enough if the listing is for a single card.

Chasing Adventure complete card list

Chasing Adventure is the utility-card drop. It pairs six established Magic spells and artifacts with Sonic characters and scenes:

The artwork is new, but the six playable cards are not new game designs. Their legality is the same as other printings with the same English card name. This is also where the official Sonic Sol Ring appears. The old article incorrectly placed a “Chaos Emerald” Sol Ring inside Turbo Gear.

When did the Sonic Superdrop release?

Wizards announced the full lineup on June 27, 2025. The direct sale opened on July 14, 2025, while supplies lasted, a date recorded in the company’s official production and shipping archive. Friends & Foes later received the separate nonfoil WPN store release on August 21, 2025. The original direct sale has ended.

What collectors should check before buying

1. Drop name: Friends & Foes, Turbo Gear and Chasing Adventure have different contents and original prices.
2. Sealed or single: A low price may be for one card, one token or an opened set rather than a sealed drop.
3. Finish: Confirm nonfoil or rainbow foil. Do not rely on a thumbnail.
4. Completeness: Match the listing against the official card list above, including the token when advertised as complete.
5. Condition: Ask for clear photos of surfaces, corners and edges when buying singles.
6. Seller and returns: Check recent feedback, delivery terms and the platform’s return policy.

Browse Sonic x MTG cards on eBay and compare more than one completed or active listing. Asking prices do not prove a sale, and a sealed product is not directly comparable with one popular single.

Is Sonic Secret Lair worth buying?

There is no single answer. A Commander player may value Friends & Foes because it contains the character cards and their original mechanics. An Equipment player may prefer Turbo Gear. Someone who wants a familiar table staple with Sonic artwork may buy only the Chasing Adventure Sol Ring.

Do not treat scarcity language or a high asking price as a promise of appreciation. Check actual contents, recent sold results, condition and total delivered cost. Buy the artwork or game pieces you want at a price that fits your hobby budget.
