About Cards Mania
What is Cards Mania?
Cards Mania is an independent trading card media project. We publish guides, news and explainers covering sports cards, Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, vintage cards, grading, collecting and card storage. Learn more on our About page.
Is Cards Mania a shop?
No. Cards Mania is a media and content website, not a retailer or a marketplace. We may link to retailers as affiliate partners but we do not sell cards directly.
Do you offer financial or investment advice?
No. We share hobby news, set information and market trends for informational purposes only. Nothing on Cards Mania should be treated as financial or investment advice.
Getting started in the hobby
I’m new to collecting. Where should I start?
Pick a category you actually enjoy — a sport, a TCG, an era — and learn what a complete set looks like. Start with sealed retail products or affordable singles, learn how to store cards safely (penny sleeves and toploaders are a common first step), and avoid spending more than you can comfortably afford.
What gear do I really need to start collecting?
At a minimum: penny sleeves, toploaders or semi-rigid holders, and a binder or storage box. Soft-tip tweezers, a magnifier and good lighting help with condition checks. A simple checklist is in our Beginner Guides section.
Grading
Which grading company should I use?
PSA, BGS, CGC and SGC are the most widely recognised. Each has different turnaround times, pricing tiers and population reports. The best choice depends on the card, the era, your budget and which graded population is most relevant to that card’s market.
Is grading worth it?
Grading makes the most sense for high-value cards, key rookies, vintage cards and cards in genuinely strong condition. For most modern bulk and low-value cards, grading costs usually exceed any value uplift.
Storage and protection
How should I store valuable cards?
Keep cards in a stable, dry environment away from direct sunlight and large temperature swings. Use penny sleeves with toploaders or one-touch magnetic holders for higher-value cards, and avoid stacking heavy items on top of binders.
Editorial and contact
How do you research articles?
We start from primary sources such as official manufacturer announcements, grading company communications and reputable hobby news outlets. Where a topic is opinion, we say so. Our full approach is on the About page.
