MTG Star Trek 2026: Release Date, Commander Decks & Products

Wizards describes the release as a trip through 60 years of Star Trek crews, adversaries and starships. The timing is deliberate. Star Trek celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026, which gives this set a broader audience than the usual Magic launch.

MTG Star Trek products and prices

Wizards has published the complete product lineup. These are the announced US MSRPs, not guaranteed shop prices.

A Prerelease Pack contains six Play Boosters, one traditional-foil rare or mythic rare promo, a deck box and a Spindown die. A standard Bundle has nine Play Boosters. The Beam Me Up Bundle has eight Play Boosters, one Collector Booster and two exclusive promo cards.

The Beginner Box includes ten themed Jumpstart half-decks plus tutorial materials. Draft Night includes 12 Play Boosters and one Collector Booster. The Enterprise-Q and Divergent Timeline Scene Boxes each include six borderless traditional-foil scene cards, six art cards, three Play Boosters and a display easel.

The four MTG Star Trek Commander decks

Commander decks are confirmed. There are four of them:

2. Landing Party
3. Klingon Fury
4. We Are the Borg

Each regular version is a ready-to-play 100-card deck. Collector’s Edition versions use the same deck lists in Surge Foil treatment.

Is MTG Star Trek Standard legal?

Yes. Cards in the main TRK set are legal in Standard and every other format. That is a confirmed rule for this release, not a prediction based on earlier Universes Beyond sets.

• TRK: legal in all formats.
• TRC Commander cards: legal in Commander, Legacy and Vintage, plus any format where an individual reprint is already legal.
• SDS Stardates cards: legal in Commander, Legacy and Vintage, plus any format where an individual reprint is already legal.

Play Boosters can contain both TRK and SDS cards. If you open an SDS card during a Star Trek Draft or Sealed event, you can play it in that event.

New MTG Star Trek mechanics

Star Trek gives Wizards plenty of mechanical material, but three new named mechanics do most of the thematic work.

Assimilate

Assimilate lets you take control of a creature or put a creature card onto the battlefield under your control. That creature gets a +1/+1 counter, becomes a Borg artifact creature and loses its other creature types. It is a very Borg way to turn an opponent’s resources into part of the Collective.

Face a Dilemma

A player faces a dilemma when that player chooses one or more modes for a spell or ability. Dilemma cards care about those choices, which fits the difficult command decisions that drive so many Star Trek episodes.

Federation

Federation is an ability word that counts the creature types among your non-Borg creatures. A varied crew becomes an advantage, which neatly captures Starfleet’s habit of bringing different species and specialists together.

Spacecraft and station

Spacecraft and station return from Edge of Eternities. Spacecraft begin as artifacts and collect charge counters through station. Some eventually become creatures once enough crew has been assigned. The U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Galaxy-Class is one of the official examples.

Signed cards, Stardates and LCARS treatments

Signed Headliner cards

The rarest confirmed chase is the signed Headliner treatment. Wizards says there are seven different cards, each hand-signed by the actor who played the character. Approximately 250 copies of each signed card exist.

Signed Headliners appear only in Collector Boosters. They are printed in English even when pulled from a Collector Booster in another language. Captain James T. Kirk and Captain Kathryn Janeway were among the first signed cards shown.

Stardates cards

There are 30 Stardates cards. These pair reprints from Magic’s past with Star Trek characters and moments. Non-foil copies can appear in Play and Collector Boosters. Traditional foils are exclusive to Collector Boosters.

LCARS frames borrow the look of Starfleet’s Library Computer Access and Retrieval System. Wizards has confirmed 29 LCARS frame cards plus all ten shock lands in LCARS treatments.
